How can we help?

How do I connect external apps to my Lili account (e.g. payroll, e-commerce, payments)?

You can connect many external apps—such as payroll providers, e‑commerce platforms, and payment apps—to your Lili account so you can receive payouts, run payroll, and manage cash flow from one place.

Most external apps connect to Lili in one of two ways:

  • By treating Lili as a linked bank account (using your routing and account number, or a secure connector like Plaid), or
  • By using your Lili Visa® debit card as a payment or payout method, when that option is supported.

How external apps usually connect to Lili

When you add Lili as a bank or payout account in an external app, that connection is typically used to:

  • Send payouts or transfers to your Lili account (for example, sales from Square or Stripe, or payroll runs from your payroll software), or
  • Debit your Lili account (for example, payroll debits or subscription charges), depending on how that app is configured.

The external app controls how and when money moves. Lili receives or sends those transfers via ACH or card networks, subject to your account limits and our processing times.

Common connection methods

When you connect Lili inside an external app, you’ll usually see one or both of these options:

  1. Instant verification via a secure connector (e.g., Plaid, Finicity, Yodlee)
    • You select “Lili” from the list of banks, then sign in with your Lili username and password in a secure pop‑up.
    • The provider verifies your account instantly, so the connection is usually ready right away.
  2. Manual bank details + micro‑deposits
    • You enter your Lili ACH routing number and account number.
    • The external app sends one or two small micro‑deposits to your Lili account to confirm ownership. This can take 2–3 business days.
    • Once the micro‑deposits appear in your Lili transaction history, you return to the external app and enter the exact amounts to complete verification.

Always use Lili’s ACH routing number, not the wire routing number, when an app asks for bank details.

Connecting specific types of external apps

Here’s how this works for common categories and where to find more detailed, app‑specific steps.

Payroll (Gusto, ADP, Rippling, etc.)

  • In your payroll provider portal, go to the bank or funding account settings.
  • Add Lili as your business checking account using either:
    • Instant verification (search for “Lili” and sign in), or
    • Manual entry with your Lili ACH routing and account number, followed by micro‑deposit verification.
  • Once connected and verified, your payroll provider can send payroll debits and credits to and from your Lili account.

For payroll‑specific details, see: Can I connect my Lili account to payroll software?

Payment processors & e‑commerce (Square, PayPal, Stripe, etc.)

These services usually connect Lili as the payout or settlement bank:

  • Square: In your Square settings under Bank Account, search for Lili, sign in with your Lili credentials, and complete any verification. Square will then send payouts to your Lili account according to your Square transfer schedule.
  • PayPal: From your PayPal Wallet, you can add your Lili Visa debit card or link Lili as a bank account (via secure connector or manual routing/account entry with possible micro‑deposits).
  • Stripe: In Stripe’s bank accounts and scheduling settings, update your payout bank to your Lili account by entering your Lili routing and account numbers.

Once configured, these providers send payouts to Lili via ACH or card rails, subject to their processing times and your Lili ACH/card limits.

For specific step‑by‑step instructions, see:

Payment apps (Venmo, Cash App, and similar)

Many payment apps let you connect either a bank account or a debit card:

  • You can add your Lili Visa debit card as a payment method inside the app.
  • Or you can link your Lili account as a bank using your routing and account numbers or a secure connector, depending on the app.

For more details, see How do I link payment apps like Venmo / Cash App / PayPal to my Lili account? and the app‑specific articles (Venmo, PayPal, etc.).

Name and ownership matching

Most external apps require that the account owner name on the bank account matches the name (or legal business name) on the external app profile:

  • When connecting business tools (Stripe, Square, payroll), use your legal business name as it appears on your Lili account.
  • For personal‑style apps (like a personal PayPal or Venmo), be aware that name mismatches may cause the connection or transfers to be rejected.

If your Lili account name doesn’t match what the external app expects, you may need to update your business information in Lili or the external app before linking.

How long do transfers take?

Once an external app is connected and verified:

  • ACH transfers and payouts from most partners typically arrive at Lili within 1–5 business days, depending on the partner’s processing times and standard ACH windows.
  • Some apps offer same‑day or instant card transfers when you link your Lili debit card (fees may apply, controlled by that app).

At Lili, these incoming transfers are subject to:

  • Your ACH and deposit limits, and
  • Our standard funds‑availability and processing timelines.

You can view your current limits in the app under Transaction Limits.

If you can’t connect an app or don’t see your transfers

If you’re having trouble connecting an external app to Lili:

  • Double‑check that you are using your Lili ACH routing number and account number, not the wire routing number, for manual setups.
  • Confirm that the name on the external app matches the owner name on your Lili account (or your legal business name).
  • If the app uses micro‑deposits, wait up to 2–3 business days and then confirm the amounts in the external app.

If an external app shows that a transfer or payout was sent to your Lili account but you don’t see the funds:

  1. Check your Lili transactions and statements for the relevant date range.
  2. Keep in mind that ACH transfers can take a few business days to post.
  3. If the funds still don’t appear after the expected timeframe, contact the external app’s support team to request transfer details (such as an ACH trace number).
  4. Then contact the Lili team (see the options listed in How do I contact the Lili team?) with that information so we can help review the incoming transfer.
