How can we help?

How do I deposit checks into my Lili account?

You can deposit eligible checks into your Lili account using Mobile Check Deposit in the Lili app. This lets you add funds without visiting a branch or mailing a check.

1. Eligibility to use Mobile Check Deposit

Eligibility to deposit checks is based on your account history and other risk‑based factors.

For Sole Proprietor accounts, you must also:

  • Have your Lili account open for at least 30 days, and
  • Receive $200 or more in ACH direct deposits from a non‑governmental source per calendar month.

Lili may adjust eligibility or limits at any time at our discretion, based on your account activity and risk profile.

2. What types of checks can I deposit?

To be accepted via Mobile Check Deposit, a check must meet all of the following:

  • Issued by a U.S. bank with a 9‑digit U.S. routing number
  • Payable in U.S. dollars
  • Made payable to you as the owner of the Lili account, or to your business if an approved business is linked to your account
  • Dated within the last 60 days (no stale‑dated or post‑dated checks)

We accept:

  • Personal checks payable to you or your approved business
  • Business checks payable to you or your approved business
  • Cashiers/official checks (handled like a regular check deposit)

We do not accept:

  • Money orders (not currently supported)
  • Third‑party checks (checks signed over to you by someone else)
  • Checks without a 9‑digit U.S. routing number
  • Stale‑dated checks, where more than 60 days have passed since the issue date
  • Post‑dated checks (dated in the future)

If your check doesn’t meet these requirements, it may be rejected or placed on hold for extended review.

3. How to endorse and deposit a check in the Lili app

Before you deposit, endorse the back of the check:

  • Sign (endorse) the back of the check.
  • Under your signature, write: “For Lili mobile deposit only

Then deposit the check in the Lili app:

  1. Open the Lili app on your mobile device.
  2. Go to Add Money.
  3. Select Mobile Check Deposit.
  4. Enter the check amount exactly as it appears.
  5. Follow the prompts to take clear photos of the front and back of the check.
Best practice for scanning a check image so it will be accepted in the app:
    • Place the check on a dark, solid and flat background.
    • Make sure all four corners are visible
    • Make sure the camera lens is clean and that the image is in focus.
  6. Review and submit your deposit.

Keep the original check in a safe place until you see that the funds are deposited and available. After that, you may safely destroy it (for example, by shredding), consistent with your own record‑keeping needs.

4. Limits and over‑the‑limit checks

Mobile check deposits are subject to daily and monthly limits, which can vary based on your plan and account history.

  • You can view your current limits in the app under Account limits / Transaction limits. Also refer to: "What are my account limits?"
  • If you need to deposit a check that is above your current limit, there is an in‑app option to request to deposit a check over the limit.

To request an over‑the‑limit deposit:

  • Open Mobile Check Deposit in the app.
  • Tap “Request to deposit a check over the limit”.
  • Follow the on‑screen directions and provide the requested details.

Customers who are eligible for higher limits will see this option; requests are reviewed at Lili’s discretion.

5. When will my funds be available?

All mobile check deposits are subject to review and standard holds. As a general guide:

  • Standard check deposits are typically available within 1–5 business days after the deposit is submitted and approved.
  • For fully approved business accounts (Single‑Member LLC, Multi‑Member LLC, General Partnership, LLP, C‑Corp, S‑Corp):
    • The first check may be available within 5 business days from approval.
    • Future checks may be available in 1–3 business days, at Lili’s sole discretion.

Checks are generally reviewed on the same business day if submitted before 4 pm EST, however each submission is always determined by our cut-off period of 4 pm Eastern time the following business day. You will receive push notifications to your phone (if the notifications settings in the Lili App are enabled) with updates on the status of your check, as well as an email notifying you once the funds become available.
Keep in mind that checks deposited after 4 pm EST on a business day or deposited on a non-business day (weekends and Federal holidays) will be considered deposited on the next business day.

Actual availability may vary based on the check type, amount, your account history, and any additional review that might be required. We may place longer holds or decline deposits in some cases in line with our funds‑availability policy and account agreement.

6. If your check deposit is declined or delayed

If your mobile check deposit is declined, fails, or appears delayed:

  1. Confirm that the check meets the eligibility criteria above and that it is:
    • Properly endorsed (“For Lili mobile deposit only”).
    • Made payable to you or your approved business.
    • Dated within the last 60 days.
  2. Check whether you may have reached a daily or monthly check‑deposit limit.
  3. Review any on‑screen messages in the app about your deposit status (e.g., additional review or a hold).
  4. If everything looks correct and you still have questions, contact the Lili team (see: How do I contact the Lili team?) with the deposit amount, date, and any error messages so we can review your deposit.
