How can we help?

How do I issue a Team Card to a team member?

Get your team spending on the business's behalf in minutes — no reimbursement paperwork, no waiting on you to approve every purchase after the fact.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • The Business Owner role, or Admin/Manager access with card permissions
  • A cardholder in mind — this can be you, another business owner, an Admin, or a team member with the Employee/Manager role. Team Cards can be issued to anyone on your account except your accountant.

Step 1: Invite your team member (if you haven't already)

If the cardholder is already on your account, including yourself, skip ahead to Step 2. If you're bringing on someone new:

  1. Go to Account Settings > Team.
  2. Select Invite a Team Member.
  3. Choose their role: Employee for a scoped, spend-only view, or Admin/Manager if they need broader account access.
  4. Enter their first name, last name, and email address.
  5. Send the invite.

Your team member will get an email to set up their own Lili sign-in. Employees land in a dedicated cardholder view and won't see your checking account balance or any banking features beyond their own card and transactions; Admins/Managers keep their existing account access.

Step 2: Issue the card

  1. Go to Cards and open the Team Cards tab.
  2. Select Create Card.
  3. Under Assign to, choose the team member from the list.
  4. Pick the card type:
    • Virtual card — ready to use immediately, ideal for software subscriptions and online purchases.
    • Physical card — arrives in 7–10 business days at your business address on file.
  5. Give the card a nickname (like "Marketing – Ad Spend" or "Field Team – Fuel") so it's easy to track later.
  6. Set the card's spending controls — per-transaction cap, recurring limit, and category rules. You can adjust these anytime after issuing. For the full walkthrough, see How do I set spending controls on a Team Card?
  7. Confirm to issue the card.

The card draws directly from your existing Lili business checking account. There's no new sub-account to fund or reconcile.

Step 3: Your team member activates their card

  • Virtual card: Available in their Lili app immediately — no activation needed.
  • Physical card: Once it arrives, your team member opens the Lili app and activates it themselves under their card details.

What your team member sees

What a cardholder sees beyond their card depends on their role. Business owners and Admins/Managers keep their existing account access. Employees get a scoped, cardholder-only view instead: their card, their transaction history, and the ability to add receipts, with zero access to your deposit account balance, other banking features, or any Team Cards beyond their own.

Good to know

  • Team Cards are Visa debit cards only - Lili does not currently offer credit cards for team members.
  • Accountants are the only role that can't be issued a Team Card.
  • You can issue as many Team Cards as you have eligible team members on your account up to 100 (10 of them physical).
