How can we help?

What happens when my invoice is paid?

When a client pays an invoice, you’ll want your records in Lili to match what actually hit your business account. This article explains how to mark invoices as paid, what changes in your dashboard, and how this supports clean books and reporting.

When and why to mark an invoice as paid

Mark an invoice as paid after you’ve confirmed that your client’s payment has been received, either through your connected payment options (Stripe, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App) or via check, ACH, or wire.

  • Keeps your open vs. paid invoices accurate for cash flow tracking.
  • Helps you and your accountant reconcile deposits to specific invoices.
  • Reduces follow‑ups on invoices that are already settled.

Mark an invoice as paid

Mobile App

Follow these steps after you’ve confirmed the payment was received in your business account or payment provider:

  1. Open the Lili mobile app.
  2. Go to Main Menu > Invoicing.
  3. Select the invoice you want to mark as paid.
  4. At the bottom of the invoice screen, tap Mark as Paid.
  5. On the next screen, tap Choose a method and select how your client paid (for example: card via Stripe, bank transfer, PayPal, check, cash, or another method), and set the time of payment.
  6. Tap Continue to save.

The invoice status will update to paid and will no longer appear as outstanding in your mobile invoicing list.

Web App

On the web, you’ll update the invoice directly from the invoice table:

  1. Log in to your Lili account on the web.
  2. From the Main Menu, click Invoicing.
  3. In the Invoices table, find the invoice that has been paid.
  4. Click the invoice to open the details panel.
  5. In the details panel, click Mark as Paid.
  6. In the window that opens, choose the payment method your client used and indicate when the payment was received.
  7. Confirm to save.

The invoice will now show as paid in the History tab on the Invoicing page, so you can quickly see which invoices are still open.

What this action does (and doesn’t do)

  • Marking an invoice as paid updates your records and reporting inside Lili.
  • It does not move money or initiate a transfer; it only reflects a payment you’ve already received through your bank or a connected payment option.
