You can have your federal or state tax refund sent directly to your Lili account by setting it up as a direct deposit when you file your tax return. This is usually faster and more secure than receiving a paper check.
What information do I need to provide?
When you file your taxes (on your own, through tax software, or with a tax professional), choose direct deposit and provide your:
- Bank routing number
- Lili account number
- Account type: Checking
You can find your Lili routing and account numbers in the app:
- Open the Lili app
- Go to your Account details screen
- Look for your Routing number and Account number
Use those numbers exactly as they appear in the app.
Whose refund can be deposited to my Lili account?
The tax refund should be deposited into an account that belongs to the taxpayer (you, your spouse, or both if filing jointly). For your Lili account, that means:
- The name on the refund should match the owner of the Lili account.
- You should not use your Lili account for tax refunds that belong to someone else.
Refunds sent to an account that doesn’t match the taxpayer’s name may be delayed, rejected, or returned by the sending institution.
How long will it take to see my refund?
Processing times for tax refunds depend mainly on the IRS or your state tax agency. Once your refund is released and sent as a direct deposit:
- It should arrive as an ACH deposit into your Lili account.
- Direct deposits like this typically post within 1–3 business days after the sending institution sends the payment, though timing can vary.
For the most accurate estimate of when your refund will be sent, check the IRS’s “Where’s My Refund?” tool or your state’s refund‑status page.
If you don’t see your tax refund
If you expected a tax refund and don’t see it in your Lili account:
- Confirm the deposit details on your tax return (routing number, account number, and account type) match the information in your Lili app.
- Use the IRS or state refund‑status tools to verify that your refund was processed and sent via direct deposit.
- If the IRS or state shows that the refund was sent and the routing/account numbers match your Lili account, but you still haven’t received it after the usual timeframe, contact the Lili team (see: How do I contact the Lili team?) and provide any details or payment trace information you received from the IRS or state so we can review.
For questions about the amount of your refund or why it was changed or delayed, you’ll need to contact the IRS, your state tax agency, your tax preparer, or your tax software provider. Lili can help you confirm whether a deposit arrived and how it appears in your account, but we can’t see or adjust your tax return.
If you choose to receive your money via check, be aware that it will take longer for you to receive it, but you will still be able to deposit it directly into your Lili account using the mobile check deposit feature, as long as it doesn’t exceed your monthly limit.
